Meet the Family
Hey friends! I am hoping that very soon I will be able to start vlogging! If you are unfamiliar with vlogging, it is just a video blog. Before I start doing that though, I thought it would be helpful to give you a little background about our family so the beginning videos make a little more sense. I will also be making a Meet the Family video before I post the first blog video as well.
So in our daily blogs you will likely see the following people: Me (Sam), my husband Josh, my son Braiden and my daughter Olivia. Sometime in December our 3rd child will also make his or her appearance. I stay at home with the kiddos during the day and I go to work part time a few nights a week at a retail store. I actually have my elementary teaching degree and taught 2nd grade for 2 years. When we moved to another city I had a really hard time finding my own classroom so I worked for a couple years as a teacher's aid. After 2 years of 90% of my paycheck going to daycare I decided I was tired of paying someone else to watch my kids and that staying home with them was the best option. My husband works full time during the day and 5 days a week I go in to work after he gets home. It is stressful at times and we see each other less but we both agree for the time being the sacrifice is totally worth it and we make it work for us.
Braide is in his last year of preschool and is excelling in a number of areas. To give you a little background on him, when he was 18 months old he was referred for a speech evaluation because he was saying no words and wasn't really even using any sounds as words to communicate. At about 2 he was diagnosed with verbal speech Apraxia. Apraxia is a motor processing disorder. We take for granted the fact that speaking comes so naturally to us and he has to think and try really hard to get those sounds to come out right. Now at 4 1/2, he is talking in full sentences most of the time and is quite the jabber box. He is very smart academically but he does struggle with some social issues but he is even making great strides in that area.
Olivia just turned 3 in the fall and when Braiden went to preschool we decided that I would do preschool activities with her at home considering I have the teaching degree. She absolutely loves doing school at home although there are days that she wishes she could go to school like her big brother. She is very well versed in her verbal abilities and the depth of what she understands I feel is advanced for her age.
On a normal day, we get up and have breakfast in the morning and then get dressed and take Braiden to school. When we come back Olivia and I will do an hour to an hour and a half of homeschool. After we are done with school I will let her watch a cartoon and I will either prep for the following school day or I will find some other chore to do for a little bit until we have to pick up Braiden from school. When we get home from school the kids will either watch a movie or play in their rooms and I will make them lunch. When they are finished with lunch they head up to their rooms for naptime. Braiden has been boycotting sleeping during naptime but he is still good about staying in his room for an hour and a half or so either playing or reading books. Olivia still takes a nap everyday. While they nap I try to stay productive cleaning up the house or taking some time for myself. Since being pregnant I often take that time sneak in a nap myself. When we all wake up the kids play some more while I start supper and then I head off to work when my husband comes home. I work for about 3-4 hours, come home, and crash.
Well those should be all the important details. Hopefully when the vlogs start they will make a little more sense! I also hope you enjoy getting an inside look at our little family!
